Maritime Security Conference to be organized by Fleming Gulf
Fleming Gulf will organize the International Mairtime Acquisition and Security conference on July 5th and 6th 2010 in Singapore. This conference will be attended by leaders in the maritime and defence industry where they will discuss the current threats to maritime security and seek to address the same.
With maritime crime on the rise, the seas may not continue to be as peaceful as they appear. Crimes including illegal border crossing, human trafficking, piracy, transnational crimes such as smuggling and maritime terrorism pose severe threats to global maritime security. This is indeed a serious problem for naval and civilian vessels resulting in heightened fear among their operators; but as is the case with almost all problems, this one too, comes not without solutions.
In 2009, the International Maritime Bureau’s Piracy Reporting Centre released a report which recorded an unprecedented rise in maritime hijacking. In 2008 there was a worldwide total of 293 incidents of piracy against ships. Although a major portion of this occurred in the Middle-Eastern region, the rest of the world is not free from such attacks.
Reuters reported in early March of 2010 that Malaysia and Indonesia had increased maritime security measures after receiving news of a possible terrorist attack on oil tankers in the Gulf of Malacca. Similar stories are making their way to news agencies while what’s lacking are platforms to discuss and avail of solutions.
It is no coincidence that the International Maritime Acquisition and Security Conference is set to take place during such a time of concern. Brad Hariharan, Project Director for the aviation and defense lineup at Fleming Gulf, a business intelligence company which produces pioneering B2B conferences throughout the world is responsible for organizing IMAS 2010 at an exclusive location in the Asia-Pacific region on the 5th and 6th of July 2010.
This conference will discuss the current and potential threats to maritime security and their possible solutions. It will bring together naval and coast guard heads, port authority representatives and concerned agencies to interact with solution providers and members of the academia, to name a few. The event itself has been designed to act as a platform for key players in the maritime industry to tackle important issues using case studies, panel discussions, special keynote addresses along with unmatched networking opportunities with key decision makers, procurers and industry leaders to give the participants an interactive, experience driven learning opportunity.
