Martz joins KCI as Structural Practice Leader in Mechanicsburg

KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices throughout the eastern and central U.S., welcomed Eric L. Martz, PE, as structural practice leader in the firm’s Mechanicsburg, Pa., office. He will be responsible for business development, quality control and project management for bridge design and inspection projects, as well as local office management.
With more than 18 years of experience, Martz is recognized within the state of Pennsylvania as a technical leader in structural engineering. He has overseen projects ranging in size from small structure replacements to preliminary design for the rehabilitation of the historic 1,793-foot long spandrel arch bridge carrying 8th Street over Little Lehigh Creek in Allentown. He also served as project manager for several contracts with various Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) districts, overseeing the biennial structural inspection of more than 250 bridges. For the National Highway Institute (NHI), Martz assisted in developing a course on load and resistance factor design for highway bridge superstructures, and served as course director and instructor in various states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Louisiana, Maine and New Jersey. He has also led training for the NHI and PennDOT for bridge inspection and design.
“Eric has a solid background and experience in bridge inspection and design, served as project manager for many major transportation projects, and has worked with numerous PennDOT districts,” said Executive Vice President and Transportation Discipline Head Harvey M. Floyd, PE. “Our main goal is for Eric to grow our bridge staff and capabilities throughout the state.”
Martz holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, as well as a certified PennDOT instructor and certified bridge safety inspector in Pennsylvania. Martz is a member of the Association for Bridge Construction and Design, and American Society of Highway Engineers. He is also a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
