Uttoxeter, England (October 30, 2009) - leading online pharmaceutical supplier Menscare have long promoted the benefits of Viagra, however new research indicates that the drug could also be beneficial when addressing cardiac problems.

Manufacturers Pfizer have long been active in sponsoring clinical trials alongside The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. There, Viagra has been used to help treat patients with enlarged hearts and partial heart problems.

More research is being undertaken on the affects of Viagra on the heart and lungs, and its possible prevention of heart failure in men and women. The active ingredient in Viagra not only opens the arteries within the penis to increase blood flow, but also around the heart and lungs, aiding circulation.

Research is being predominantly focused on Viagra's phosphodiesterases which help to break down the cyclic guanosine monophosphate in the body. Chen Yan, cardiology professor at The University of Rochester Medical Centre, states that the phosphodiesterases may also help "shut down abnormal cardiac growth". It is thought that Viagra could also help treat high blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

"This goes to show that Viagra has affects that reach out beyond the bedroom," says Jackie Groombridge, Managing Director of Menscare. "Viagra has long helped men when treating erectile dysfunction. That it could also help out with heart disease and lung circulation is great news. We are delighted that additional research is being dedicated to its other potential benefits."
