Merger and acquisitions in decline
Merger and acquisition deals in the telecoms sector seem to be in decline. A study by Ovum revealed there were 129 deals in Q4 2008 – compared to 192 in Q4 2007. In addition there were 10 deals in Q4 2007 valued at over $1 billion – in Q4 2008 this had dwindled to just 4. This has been partly attributed to the amount of debt many struggling companies are carrying – and this factor has become a more important focus to potential buyers in the current economic environment.
