Metering Europe in Amsterdam: Telekom presents energy solutions internationally for the first time
Smart metering platform saves costs across all processes, SAP industry solution including licenses for rent,
New prepaid system enables low-price mass rollout
Sep 29, 2011
At Metering Europe in Amsterdam from October 4 to 6, Deutsche Telekom will be presenting new solutions for the energy industry to an international audience.
With the smart metering platform, energy providers, the housing industry and meter operators collect and transmit data from electronic meters. The solution is based on a communication box which records consumption data from 90 meters from 20 different manufacturers and transmits them in encrypted form via Internet protocol. The box sends the data in the preferred reading cycle: once every 15 minutes, once every hour with the cumulativequarter-hourvalues, or once a day, which saves costs. The system can also give a current meter reading at any time at the press of a button. Telekom now offers this service at a fixed monthly price.
Energy providers also save costs with cloud computing solutions for utilities industry processes. For example, Telekom offers the Industry Solution for Utilities including SAP licenses for rent. This solution is capable of performing all key tasks, from energy data management and billing, to market communication when a customer decides to swap providers, through tosix-monthlyupdates in line with the requirements of the Federal Network Agency. Thus customers receive all their IT and communications technology from one source at calculable costs.
The prepaid system useslow-costelectronic meters for EUR 30 as prepaid meters, which normally cost up to EUR 500. Telekom does this by shifting the intelligence from the meters to the data center and the input buttons to cell phones, which makes them cheap and flexible. EU legislation requires smart meters to be installed in all European households by 2022.Low-cost, flexible meters that connect to an intelligent system reduce the investment and secure the sustainability of the entire system.
