A group of children from Edinburgh College’s nursery have celebrated their final day at pre-school in style by donning graduation gowns and mini mortar boards to mark the occasion.
The Waterfront Nursery – which is Edinburgh College’s on-campus nursery in Granton – saw 37 of its children graduate at the red carpet ceremony. This year, the graduation ceremony had more of an international flavour, with 16 out of the 37 youngster speaking languages other than English.
One of the mini graduates at the Waterfront Nursery, Abraham Olivier, has the reading age of a nine-year old and speaks small amounts of Spanish and Polish thanks to several of his international classmates.
Abraham, who is living in Edinburgh and is five-years old, said: “I’m really looking forward to going to the big school and reading longer books like Harry Potter – and maybe even getting to write my own books one day. I love going to nursery and speaking little bits of Polish and Spanish. I can even count to ten in Polish! I think learning languages will be something I can learn at the big school too.”
The young graduands were piped into the Performing Arts Studio Scotland theatre at Edinburgh College, where they were presented with their scrolls in front of their family, friends and nursery teachers.
