COLUMBUS, Ohio (Dec. 16, 2013)—Battelle has only a few Senior Research Leaders, the highest recognition afforded to any of its engineers and scientists. Now, Srikanta Mishra has become one of 12 at the world’s largest independent research and development organization.

Mishra is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in geosystems modeling, uncertainty quantification, and integrated system risk assessment. His 25-year-plus record of achievements spans the fields of petroleum reservoir engineering, carbon dioxide sequestration, nuclear waste disposal and water resource management.

“This is a prestigious achievement, comparable to becoming a Fellow in academia,” said Marty Toomajian, President of Battelle Energy, Health & Environment. “Srikanta’s expertise in the field of geoscience combined with his innovative solutions for our customers and his dedication to Battelle’s mission embodies the type of leadership we expect.”

Mishra joined Battelle in 2010 after a distinguished career in environmental consulting and applied research including an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. As a part of Battelle’s Exploration and Production Services resource group, he now leads the subsurface fluid dynamics modeling and uncertainty analysis activities related to geological carbon storage, improved oil recovery and shale gas development projects.

In his new role, he will focus on expanding Battelle’s subsurface resource management practice. He also will help integrate Battelle’s geoscience expertise with its capabilities in microbiology and metagenomics, data analytics, nanotechnology and materials science for the oil and gas industry.

Mishra holds a Ph.D.  from Stanford University, a master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and a BTech degree from Indian School of Mines – all in Petroleum Engineering. He is the author of more than 150 technical publications, a regular instructor of short courses on uncertainty analysis and hydro-fracturing related environmental impacts, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Petroleum Science & Engineering.
