MSLGROUP and SIMC host the ‘Public Relations in India - Challenges and Outlook’ Conclave

Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication with MSLGROUP co-hosted the ‘Public Relations in India – Challenges and Outlook’ conclave on July 19th 2014. The conclave was held at Symbiosis Knowledge Village, Lavale, Pune. The gathering encompassed a panel of eminent personalities from MSLGROUP and it shed light on the shift from traditional PR to a more advanced form of PR and the evolving trends in the PR industry of India.


Lavale,Pune,Maharashtra, July 19, 2014 - (PressReleasePoint) - The assembly brought together experts from MSLGROUP, the PR industry at large and the academia from the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication. Mr. Jaideep Shergill, the CEO of MSLGROUP, along with Mr. Pradyuman Maheshwari, CEO of MxM India, spoke about the transformation of PR into a more evolved structure. Together, they reflected on the causes and results arising out of the changes in the communication behavior of the audiences. Mrs. Zelma Lazarus, Public Affairs Head at Voltas Ltd., spoke about history of PR, its evolution and PR in the Indian context.

The panel discussion gave students a view about the impact of the economic downturn on the growth of the industry as well as the direction in which it is headed in 2014. Mr. Jaideep Shergill said, “Asia will lead the re-invention of PR in the near future and so will India”. This session gave the students a point to ponder, and introduced them to the realm of PR as an industry as well.

The second session had Mr. Aseem Sood, the CEO of Impact PR, speak to the students about the integration of research and measurement in the Indian PR industry. He mentioned, “In India, PR Professionals are unable to define the PR objectives very well, which is not measurable. PR objectives need to be measurable at the end of the day. We need research to do PR for PR in India.” The students were introduced to the tools and systems used in the industry. In the last session, the panelists deliberated upon the rise of new services like public affairs, CSR and employee branding. Col. (Dr.) Ram Athavale spoke about the efforts of the Indian Army in the field of brand management. Mr. Nand Kumar, Head – Corporate Communications & CSR, ACC Cements, commented on the importance of the creating value for different stakeholders.

The students, who will be instrumental in the change of face of PR in coming years, were able to gain insights about the change in the industry from the pool of opinions at the conclave. Mr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, Business Head at TAM Media Research, observed that this was the first time that such an in-depth discussion on PR Measurement had been initiated through efforts from both academia and industry. They were able to understand the importance of identifying and addressing the different stakeholders and the different roles they will choose once they enter the industry.
