Mum’s Labour of Love to Benefit Bournemouth Women

Expectant mums in Bournemouth and Poole have been signing up for inspirational tips on handling labour from one of the South’s natural birth experts.

Bournemouth, England, 6 February, 2009 (PressReleasePoint) - Growing demand for places on her birth preparation teaching has prompted Rosa Davies to add new classes in Parkstone to her series already under way at venues in Dorset and West Hampshire.

Ms Davies, a professional birth educator, said her “friendly and interactive” classes help women prepare mentally, physically and emotionally.

The Verwood-based mum, who also acts as a doula or birth companion, said: “The hands-on teaching style enables pregnant women to take more active control of their birth process through yoga-based exercises, breath work, pain coping techniques and understanding positions that are helpful for birth.

“This participatory approach encourages confidence and trust in women that birth can be a natural process. Birth is an exciting, special time but it can be daunting for many women so we look at how to keep you feeling positive even if it doesn’t always go as planned.”

Ms Davies, whose website is called Labour of Love, said she had always been interested in “the everyday miracle of birth” since before her daughter Lily was born six years ago.

Growing interest in a wider range of accredited birth preparation training follows the setting up of a register of qualified, private sector teachers by the regulatory body, the Federation of Antenatal Educators.
