As part of the “Museums in Music 2016” Initiative, on Saturday, December 10, Sapienza will organise free, open cultural events in seven of its museums from 7:30 to 11:30 pm. Your present is rooted in the past. Witness the art that surrounds you.
ETRUSCAN AND ITALIC ANTIQUITIES MUSEUM
The Antiquities museum will provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about ancient musical instruments and their use in Etruscan times through copies of painted tomb frescoes. Then, at 9:00 pm the MuSa Classic Orchestra will hold a performance. Guided tours are available from 8:20 to 10:00 pm.
The Anthropology museum has millions of relics that recount the history of mankind’s evolution. Visitors will embark on a journey through the history of physical anthropology in the 19th and 20th centuries. The MuSa Choir will perform a repertoire of international Christmas carols at 8:00 pm.
CLASSICAL ART MUSEUM
For the evening the Classical Art museum will dress in music between the statues. In this occasion the visitors, between the notes of a piano and violin concert, will listen to the sound of music in harmony with ancient sculptures. Guided tours from 8.30 to 10.30.
“PRIMO LEVI” CHEMISTRY MUSEUM
Visitors will learn about the ancient ancestors of modern tools and the ancient shapes that once provided the main instruments in chemistry labs. The MuSa Blues Choir will perform at 9:00 and at 10:15 pm.
CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM LAB
Visitors will enjoy the unique opportunity to experience art in relation to existence. Art is an attempt to hold back and eternalize a moment, which by nature is ephemeral and fleeting. Visitors will be invited to reflect on the theme of presence: works of art portray a time that is gone, but which still has a present. At 8:30 pm, EtnoMuSa will perform traditional songs from Rome and the Lazio Region.
The Origins Museum will display archaeological finds from the excavation of a Copper Age village that are currently present in the museum. The exhibition aims to illustrate the long history of a small village in the heart of Italy. At 10:00 pm, Etno MuSa will perform traditional songs from Rome and the Lazio Region.
NEAR EAST, EGYPT AND MEDITERRANEAN MUSEUM
The finds brought to light by Sapienza’s Archaeological Missions will allow visitors to wander through the Mediterranean from the onset of civilization to the birth of cities. At 10:00, pm the MuSa Classica Orchestra will hold a concert. Guided tours will be held at 9:00 pm and 10:30 pm.
