Now THIS is what growth and forgiveness looks like.

Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas were famously one of the NBA’s greatest friends. But their friendship took a brutal turn in the late 1980s, when the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers played each other in two consecutive NBA Finals. In Game 3 of the ’88 Finals the two got into a tussle and caused a riff between the two.

“You had to make a choice between your Lakers and our friendship.” & @MagicJohnson reflect on the 1988 NBA Finals. #PlayersOnlyMonthly

A few years later, Johnson infamously helped keep Thomas off the 1992 Dream Team because he says Thomas spread a rumor that he was bisexual or gay.  But the two reunited in a special that aired on NBATV and they were finally able to talk about their tumultuous relationship and even make peace with each other. Grab your tissues and watch the incredibly emotional apology below.

“Let me apologize to you. If I hurt you. That we haven’t been together.”
