New York-based fundraiser makes a donation pledge to help Jim Valvano’s foundation find a cure for cancer

My Sports Dreams announced that for every credit card donation received by one of their clients’ fundraising campaigns, the company will donate $1 to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Their immediate goal is to raise tens of thousands of dollars with the help of young athletes nationwide.

My Sports Dreams specializes in helping youth, high school, and collegiate teams raise money for their program’s operating expenses. Now, however, they are branching out to help those who fight for the thousands who “never give up.”

“We’re honored to support The V Foundation and the great work they do,” said Jordan Kern, Co-Founder of My Sports Dreams. “Jim Valvano was a galvanizing figure in athletics, and through his legacy we can not only help those affected by cancer, but also instill the importance of philanthropy and giving back in all walks of life to young athletes nationwide.”

The V Foundation’s namesake, legendary college basketball coach Jim Valvano, was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1992. As part of his quest to eradicate the disease by assisting researchers in finding a cure, “Jimmy V” teamed with ESPN in 1993 to begin The V Foundation – which to date has raised more than $100 million and awarded cancer research grants in 38 states and the District of Columbia.

“Every dollar counts, and as my brother said on that stage 17 years ago, cancer research may not have been able to save his life, but it may save someone you love,” said Nick Valvano, Chief Executive Officer of The V Foundation. “We’re extremely proud to have My Sports Dreams helping us fight a battle that we know will ultimately lead to the cure.”

Jim Valvano, who led North Carolina State to the 1983 NCAA National Championship, is perhaps best remembered for his moving speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards. Though he lost his battle with cancer later that year, his mantra of “Don't give up, don't ever give up” lives on through The V Foundation.
