Apart from Table Tennis and Swimming who have to prepare for the competitions on the next day, the rest of Hong Kong Delegation attended the Opening Ceremony of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games officiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

The Opening Ceremony started at 20:00 in the evening on 16 August 2014 in Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. Representing Hong Kong as a flag bearer, Badminton athlete Lee Cheuk Yiu marched in the Ceremony with the Bauhinia Flag that showcased the spirit of Hong Kong people. Lee said “I am surprised to be selected as the flag bearer for Hong Kong Delegation in Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. A flag bearer represented the whole delegation and Hong Kong, and I am very happy and honored to be selected to serve this role.”

After the march-in section, the Organizing Committee prepared a show full of Chinese elements to display the best of Nanjing to the world. Although this was the third time that our Young Ambassador Stephanie AU attended the Opening Ceremony of the Games, she was impressed, “I was impressed by the man-made visual elements which were added into the ceremony, especially when the performers formed a human chandelier. Through these performers, the audience could connect themselves with the collective youth dream.”

The Federation would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Home Affairs Bureau and Leisure and Cultural Services Department for their staunch support. Special thanks should also go to FILA Marketing (Hong Kong) Limited for its sponsorship of official sports uniform and Kee Wah Bakery for its sponsorship of bakery gift set to the Delegations.
