NAVAL AIR STATION MERIDIAN, Miss. (NNS) -- Military and civilians at Naval Air Station Meridian conducted active shooter training, Feb. 21, as part of the force protection and anti-terrorism exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield (SC/CS 14) 2014.

The regularly scheduled training exercise tested the ability of installation security forces to respond during an emergency.

SC-CS 14 is conducted by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF) and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) on all Navy installations in the Continental United States to allow Navy security personnel to sharpen training skills and situational readiness through real life training scenarios.

"The purpose of the exercise is to ensure that we are ready to respond to a threat at all times," said Capt. Charles C. Moore II, commanding officer, NAS Meridian. "And this drill provides hands-on, real time decision making and training to further ensure that our personnel are postured to provide for the safety of our equipment, and, more importantly, of our Sailors, Marines and their families, as well as our Navy civilian and contract employees."

The Solid Curtain portion of the exercise focuses on command, control, and communication (C3) between all echelons Navy-wide. Citadel Shield emphasizes installation-level training exercises to test the ability of installation security forces during an emergency.
