NASA To Award 5 New IT Maintenance Contracts In 2009
NASA IT Leadership Announced A New IT Infrastructure Consolidation Initiative Beginning with 5 New Contract Awards in 2009
Rockville, MD, July 25, 2008 --"(PressReleasePoint)"-- NASA announced a major initiative to consolidate Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure management around 5 new contract vehicles to be released for public comment in a few months. NASA officials provided details about the new strategic sourcing initiative titled Information Technology Infrastructure Improvement Program (I3P) at an Industry briefing in Washington DC on July 23rd 2008.
The 5 new contracts to be awarded in 2009 are grouped by specific areas of performance around Network Consolidation, Uniform Desktop Services, Data Center Consolidation, Web Presence Centralization and Enterprise Application Services. NASA officials stressed the need to provide greater returns on investment to meet mission requirements within budgetary constraints as key drivers for the consolidation initiative.
NASA IT Executive, Mr. Mike Bolger, highlighted the organization’s desire to consolidate IT Infrastructure management by using standards like ITIL and relying on “best of breed” suppliers. The Request for Information (RFI) is expected to be released in Fall 2008 with eventual contract award in 12-18 months.
NASA stated that no determinations with regard to Small business setasides had been made, but it was possible that one or more of the identified contracts could be limited to Small businesses. Other alternatives with regard to the acquisition planning and sourcing strategies were still in the discussion phase. Mr. Glenn Delgado, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Small Business Programs advised Small businesses to stay in close contact with their Small Business Specialists. He expected there to be opportunities for Small businesses as a result of this new initiative.
