NSW Blues off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been included in the 14-man Australian squad for a One Day International tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa at the end of this month.

Lyon is one of six NSW Blues selected with Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Shane Watson also named in the touring party.

National selector Rod Marsh said this tour was an important part of Australia’s preparation for the 2015 ICC World Cup, adding that the National Selection Panel was looking forward to seeing what Lyon could offer in the 50 over game.

“Nathan Lyon has done very well in Test match cricket, but first came under notice through his performances in short form cricket. He bowled well in last year’s Domestic One Day competition and having not played an ODI since early 2012, the NSP is keep to see him in action again,” said Marsh.

Lyon has played two One Day Internationals so far in his career with his last appearance against the West Indies in Kingstown.
