Chennai has become one of the most sought after destinations for Medical tourism in Indian these days. Reflecting this, the Health Minister of the Republic of Nauru, Mr. Mathew Batsiua visited Dr. K M Cherian’s Frontier Lifeline Hospital post the successful cardiac treatments of Nauru citizens. The government of Nauru is looking forward to foster long-term relationship with the hospital that offers world class amenities for patients.

Following the recent successful treatment of the first batch of patients at the Frontier Lifeline Hospital, The Ministry of Health – Nauru, has sent their second batch of patients for heart surgery to Chennai. Accompanied by a family member, these patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.Nauru plans to use Chennai for future medical tourism options as the treatment offered is world class.

The size and economies of scale has limited Nauru from providing medical service on the island and for many years there have been referrals to private hospitals in Australia. However budget constraints have meant that there have had to be limits on the numbers of patients who could be referred to Australia for treatment.

Talking to the media, Mr. Mathew Batsiua - the Health Minister, Nauru said, “With the lower cost of surgery in India, even with the additional travelling expenses, Nauru’s Ministry of Health can now ease the limit on the number of people for whom the government can pay for overseas medical treatment”

The end result is that the Government of Nauru will be able to ensure that many more patients receive the treatment they need at hospitals which have been investigated and proven to have world class standards.

Adding on, Dr. K M Cherian – Chairman & CEO, Frontier Lifeline Hospital said, “We are happy to extent our services to the people of Nauru. I believe that every human being has the right to proper medical treatments and taking this forward we have successfully seen to the treatments of two batches of patients from the small island nation!”

Mr. Mathew Batsiua’s visit to the hospital is in light of the growing relationship and medical confluence between Chennai and Nauru. The Health Minister intends to increase cooperation from other specialty hospitals within the region that will also likely to be used as referral centers for future patients from Nauru
