New technology opens door to sharing check-in functionality with other international carriers to make traveling easier in China

BEIJING, China, Dec 11, 2013 – NCR Corporation, the global leader in consumer transaction technologies, announced today it is enabling China Southern Airlines  (“China Southern”) to open up the sharing of its self-service check-in solution at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport with Air France, a fellow SkyTeam member airline.  This technology makes China Southern the first airline in China to share self-service check-in with a foreign airline.

Passengers now traveling between Paris and Guangzhou can enjoy self-check-in services at kiosks deployed by China Southern at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, where they can check-in, access flight information and apply membership points as well as scan and print boarding passes or check mileages.

China Southern is currently deploying NCR’s self-service check-in solution at airports located in 23 medium to large cities in China. Building on the co-operation with Air France, China Southern will extend the self-check-in service sharing to airports in key cities such as Shanghai and Beijing in the near future. It will also open up the sharing of self-check-in services with more SkyTeam member airlines.

NCR is a primary supplier of self-service check-in solutions for China Southern including more than 200 Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) check-in kiosks. The platform allows China Southern to share its self-check-in solution with Air France smoothly, as applications from both airlines are compliant with each other when running concurrently on a single self-service device.  NCR is also providing technology support and consulting services to China Southern.

“Enabling the sharing of self-check-in services between China Southern and Air France reflects the versatility of NCR's platform, solution and services for the travel industry. We work hard to be an integral part in making the journey easier for travelers with self-service solutions around the world,” says Pedro Carrasco, v.p. sales for EMEA and APAC, NCR Travel. “We will continue supporting China Southern in opening up the sharing of its self-check-in services with more airlines around the world."

NCR has been a technology provider to China Southern since 2009. China Southern has offered self-service check-in for about 13 million passengers between 2010 and 2012. In June 2012, China Southern’s international self-service check-in system became live to support passengers traveling on international routes.
