Replaces Antivirus with Solidcore's Combined Whitelisting and Host Intrusion Prevention Approach

CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov. 24, 2008 — Solidcore® Systems, Inc., a leader in securing retail and point-of-service systems, today announced that NEC Infrontia Corporation has selected Solidcore's S3 Control Embedded™ software as a foundation for securing NEC Infrontia's new line of point-of-service (POS) systems.  Solidcore's combined whitelisting and host intrusion prevention (HIPS) approach on NEC Infrontia's new "TWINPOS5000" series POS systems helps retailers solve the rigors of POS security, malware protection and Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard compliance with minimal system and operational overhead.

Solidcore leverages a combination of dynamic whitelisting and host intrusion prevention technologies to provide the most complete protection and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance coverage across retail store systems.  Solidcore ensures only pre-authorized applications and code can run on POS systems while securely allowing software updates to the POS system from trusted sources, such as those generated by retail coupon engines and authorized software provisioning systems.  Solidcore also prevents disk tampering, and provides advanced memory protection to authorized software to defend authorized software against buffer overflow vulnerability attacks and zero-day exploits.

"Solidcore provides a revolutionary approach for protecting POS systems without the need to constantly scan for viruses, update signatures or refresh pattern files," said Hiroshi Komura, associate senior vice president of NEC Infrontia, introducing the new POS product line.  "Solidcore is helping us provide our retail customers with the most effective security and compliance without disrupting the performance of our new "TWINPOS5000" series POS systems."

Solidcore's S3 Control Embedded™ software platform was recently awarded "NSS Labs Approved" by NSS Labs, the globally recognized leader in independent security testing and certification.  Solidcore is also the chosen protection solution for more than 100,000 POS systems worldwide, and in addition to NEC Infrontia, is the chosen protection solution for many of the World's leading point of service device manufactures including NCR, Retalix/StoreNext and Sharp.

"POS systems have become the most critical element of retail security, not only because of the numerous large security breaches that have occurred this year, but because POS systems sit on the front-lines of processing sensitive cardholder data," saidAnne Bonaparte, president and CEO of Solidcore.  "We are pleased to see NEC Infrontia taking this proactive approach to securing their next-generation point-of-service platforms with Solidcore, which further validates Solidcore as the most effective approach for locking down today's most critical fixed-function systems."
