Network Rail chooses LogiXML embedded analytics to enhance visibility and agility of decision making for multi-billion pound inf
NR Crossrail Systems team creates a new information supply chain that builds stakeholder confidence
Reading, UK – March 1, 2013 - Network Rail (NR) has chosen LogiXML’s platform for embedded analytics to improve visibility and shared access to key investment, risk and performance metrics for its part in the Crossrail project – a circa £2.1 billion programme of works due for completion in 2018.
The NR Crossrail Systems team aims to provide simple solutions that enable the safe and affordable delivery of its elements of the Crossrail project. The existing reporting tools used within the business were required to be more responsive and operate in real-time with bi-directional capabilities, to build and deliver the type of critical insights required by the wide range of Crossrail programme and industry stakeholders.
“The most important feature we sought from an alternative reporting solution was agility. The BI capabilities offered from LogiXML’s platform, Logi Info, delivers this giving us greater reporting and analytics speed and consistency - taking data from a huge range of disparate sources. The team at Logi is fantastic to work with, and we were up and running in just 10 days after loading live data. We have also been really impressed with the platform’s security functionality,” explained Paul Sadd, Application Development Manager, NR Crossrail Systems team.
Additionally, Logi Info now gives the business applications used for project risk and financial management a consistent look and feel based on accurate data. Improved access to relevant and true information has also reduced the organisation’s reliance on Excel – seen internally as a very positive cultural step.
“If an executive or operational manager is having a discussion about a particular element of the project – with a press of the refresh button they know that they are looking at the most up-to-date information, in a graphical format, that makes sense for that specific part of the business,” said Paul Sadd.
Being able to share timely and relevant information more widely with stakeholders not only builds their confidence, but also supports Crossrail’s goal to shape the construction industry in order to set new standards and enhance the reputation of public infrastructure projects.
“We continue to see more and more businesses such as Network Rail wanting to embed analytics directly into the processes, systems and applications they use to run their organisations,” said Simon Ryan, Director of EMEA, LogiXML. “Our agile technology makes it easier for business people to understand their data, and to put this understanding to work faster and more cost effectively than traditional BI systems or toolsets.”
About Crossrail
Crossrail is among the most significant infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the UK. From improving journey times across London, to easing congestion and offering better connections, Crossrail will change the way people travel around the capital. Building the new railway involves constructing eight new stations in central London and Docklands and upgrading many existing stations. Stretching from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, the new railway will cover 118km of track including 21km of new twin-bore rail tunnel.
Crossrail will, for the first time, produce a direct connection between all of London’s main business centres, linking Heathrow, with Paddington, the West End, the City and Canary Wharf. Up to 24 trains per hour will operate in the central section between Paddington and Whitechapel during peak periods, with each train able to carry 1,500 passengers. An estimated 200 million people will travel on Crossrail each year.

About Network Rail
Network Rail runs, maintains and develops Britain’s rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and 17 key stations.
Today more people travel by rail than at any point since the 1920s, when the rail network was around twice its current size. Every year 1.3 billion journeys are made on Britain’s railway and 100 million tonnes of freight is transported by rail between ports, factories and shops.
A million more trains run every year than just five years ago but the increasing popularity of rail means that, at peak times, there is no space for more trains on the busiest parts of the network. Despite this, demand is still increasing. Over the next 30 years passenger demand for rail will more than double and freight demand is expected to go up by 140%.
