Media invited to the UCR Alumni and Visitors Center at 12 noon

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) – UC Riverside Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Wooldridge announced today that the Highlanders will introduce their new head baseball coach to the community at 12 noon Tuesday, July 29 at UC Riverside’s Alumni & Visitors Center, 3701 Canyon Crest Dr.
The position opened at the end of the 2014 season when Doug Smith announced his retirement after nearly four decades with the Highlanders, and is being filled following a nation-wide search.
Following the introduction, prepared remarks and photo opportunities, the participants will be available to meet with members of the media for one-on-one interviews. Media interested in attending the event should contact the UC Riverside Athletics Media Relations Office at (951) 827-5438.

UC Riverside’s baseball program is arguably the most successful of the Highlanders’ 17 intercollegiate sports boasting two national championships, multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, and 17 alumni who have gone on to play in the major leagues, including current big leaguers Joe Kelly (St. Louis Cardinals) and Marc Rzepczynski (Cleveland Indians).
