About The Author: Ismail Rifaat is an Egyptian-born American. He graduated with distinction as an architect from the University of Alexandria and received a scholarship to the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Rifaat lived in Switzerland for eight years, earning a master’s degree and working for various architectural firms before immigrating for a brief time to Canada before ending up in the U.S. There he quickly earned his citizenship and architectural and planning licenses. In his career of more than five decades, Rifaat held leadership positions in numerous large-scale international architectural and planning projects, working for the United Nations on projects in Libya and Qatar. Rifaat has two children and three grandchildren.
