Gold Coast, Queensland Wednesday 11th January, 2017 – Competitors on day two of the 2016/17 Wahu Surfer Groms Comps presented by Woolworths were met with improved conditions as competition resumed once again on the northern end of the Gold Coast at The Spit. The bank offered a playful apex suitable for both goofy and natural footers surfing open faced with no shortage of fun waves out in the water.

Unprecedented performances were seen by finalists across all divisions with distinguished displays seen from those in both blue-ribbon Under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ divisions.

The hotly contested match up of finalists in the blue-ribbon divisions saw a local whitewash victory with Coolangatta’s Marlon Harrison and Raya Campbell taking out their Boys’ and Girls’ divisions respectively.

For their efforts, the two will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses paid, three-day Wahu Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).

Not to be outdone were those from the Under 12’s divisions who not only displayed an equally impressive performance to the Under 14’s but truly lived up to what the series stands for which is having loads of fun in competition and down on-beach.

In the end it was Ty Richardson (Palm Beach, QLD) taking out the boys over fellow finalists Max Deffenti (Miami, QLD), Harry O’Brien (Lennox Head, NSW) and Bohdi Brooks (Currumbin, QLD) while Noosa’s Lilliana Bowrey (Tewantin, QLD) who’s known also as a striking Longboarder showed her versatile surfing ability and took out the Under 12 Girls’ division.

Not all fun on finals day was seen just in the water with loads of beach games, prizes and activities being on offer for the frothing groms part of the event.

Special mention goes to Joel Emery and Jordy Halford who are our respective Boy and Girl Woolworths Fresh Wave Award winners, each taking home a whopping $250 Woolworths gift voucher.
