Neato Robotics brings intelligent and powerful new family of home robot vacuums to consumers

OTTAWA, March 14, 2014 QNX Software Systems Limited, a global leader in software platforms for connected embedded systems, today announced that Neato Robotics has chosen the QNX Neutrino operating system as the software platform for the new Neato BotVac series of robot vacuums.

Neato BotVac robot vacuums use advanced technology and thoughtful design to vacuum homes thoroughly and methodically, making them the most intelligent and powerful home robot vacuums available anywhere. Using advanced laser technology, the robots scan and map a room before cleaning in an organized manner. More information can be found on the Neato Robotics website.

After evaluating other operating systems, Neato Robotics chose the QNX OS for its superior realtime performance and efficient use of system hardware, as well as for its flexibility to support new product features.

To maneuver reliably around pets, furniture, staircases, and other household objects, our autonomous home robots need fast, predictable response times, and the QNX OS has enabled our engineers to achieve very high performance on cost-effective hardware, said Mike Perkins, vice president of engineering at Neato Robotics. The QNX OS also helped us create a software architecture that can quickly accommodate new features, giving us the flexibility to scale product lines and deliver compelling new capabilities.

Since 1980, manufacturers have relied on QNX OS technology to power their connected embedded devices everything from car infotainment systems and Internet routers to medical devices, industrial automation systems, and consumer appliances. The QNX OS employs a modular microkernel architecture designed to enable high levels of reliability, availability, scalability, and performance.

Every once in a while, you come across an innovative product that truly makes everyday life simpler and easier and that's exactly the kind of product that Neato Robotics has brought to market, said Derek Kuhn, vice president of sales and marketing, QNX Software Systems. From the beginning, weve been excited to support Neato as they developed the BotVac series of robot vacuums and today I am thrilled to see its debut.
