New Sport Consulting Company Seeks the Next Great Event in Grey-Bruce. People who have ideas for the next great sporting event in the area are invited to fill out a survey at griggsport.com for a chance to win free admission/registration to the inaugural event(s) that they help conceptualize.

WIARTON – November 30 2010:

GriggSport Strategies is getting ready to re-launch in South Bruce Peninsula and they want your input on what sort of sport events you’d like to see come to the Grey-Bruce area. The company has been operating in Thunder Bay and Vancouver but owner/consultant Leigh Grigg has recently moved to the area following completion of his work with the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

The goal of the company is to bring a calendar of new sport events to people in the region, capitalizing on Canada’s recent achievements at Vancouver 2010. The spin-off effects of such a boost in local events are increased sport tourism to the area, increased public fitness levels, and community pride, but only if done properly. This is why GriggSport is looking for your ideas.

“Before we open up shop and start planning a triathlon or a new cross-country ski race, we have to first see which sports and activities community members enjoy, which sports have strong communities and leadership, and what events would draw sport tourism interest to the area.”

Grigg wants input from around the community, including from the general public. People who have ideas for the next great sporting event in the area are invited to fill out a survey at griggsport.com for a chance to win free admission/registration to the inaugural event(s) that they help conceptualize.

The company uses a not-for-profit model that will see proceeds from the new event(s) fund sport infrastructure and scholarships in the region. The company also prides itself on being low-impact to the environment, and socially minded in its attempt to reduce “barriers to sport”.

“There seems to be strong grassroots sport participation in Grey-Bruce, which was a big reason for the company coming here. We think that with a few more well-run local events, to complement the current local schedule of sport events, all residents will have a chance to participate and set personal goals for fitness and fun. More events will facilitate greater frequency and higher standards of competition for our athletes. These events will support local role-models as well as those in the making.”

A goal of GriggSport is to draw regional, national and international attention to at least some of its events, while keeping local participation and enthusiasm high. As Grigg states, “if the events are popular locally and bring in sport tourism dollars from outside the region, everybody wins.”
