Public Notice

4 September 2014

The Australian Government has commenced a new water purchase initiative in the Queensland Condamine-Balonne catchment.

The tender for the purchase of water harvesting licences will open at 9am on Tuesday, 30 September 2014 and interested license holders have until 5pm on Thursday, 30 October 2014 to make an offer.

This purchase is for unsupplemented and overland flow water harvesting licence holders.

The Lower Balonne water purchase initiative will help deliver the Australian Government’s commitment to bridging the gap to meet the Sustainable Diversion Limits as set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

Water purchased through this tender will help achieve the Government’s goal of improving the health of the Basin’s rivers, wetlands and floodplains.

More than 40 gigalitres of water has already been recovered in the Condamine-Balonne catchment to meet the needs of the local environment.

The Government will only pursue those offers which meet value for money criteria.

The Australian Government is committed to implementing the Basin Plan on time and in full.

Further information including Request for Tender guidelines and application forms will be made available on the Department’s website at or by calling the Water Information Line on 1800 218 478 when the program opens on 30 September 2014.
