Key findings:

(Cincinnati and Chicago; October 24, 2011) – As mobile industry leaders meet in the Windy City for4G World 2011, a new study by Heavy Reading forConvergys Corporation(NYSE: CVG) finds that to profit from next-gen services, operators will need flexible business support systems (BSS) expressly designed for 4G.

In 4G Demands Evolution of BSS, by Heavy Reading senior analyst Ari Banerjee, results from a survey of 75 global providers show wide divergence on plans for monetizing mobile data and profiting from 4G. Many current BSS solutions lack the flexibility and scalability to accommodate diverse operator strategies.

“Yesterday’s BSS platforms, which provide offline batch-oriented rating capabilities, will not be able to handle real-time transactional scenarios that will be presented by 4G’s dynamic business models,” said Banerjee. “It is time for such monolithic, offline billing platforms to give way to real-time transaction management systems that will not only catalyze the monetization process but also enable communications service providers to roll out innovative business models.”
