Youssef Gabriel Chahine (director, actor, scriptwriter, and filmmaker) born 25 January 1926 in Alexandria died on Sunday 27 July 2008 in Cairo.

Often censured, Youssef Chahine denounced stupidity and fundamentalism.
Youssef Chahine does not represent just one style, but many, and amongst them his musical hits such as “You’re my love” (a musical comedy with Farid El Atrache) or “Nile boy” based on the work of Grant Marshall (USA) “Nature Boy”.

Recognised as one of the best film directors of the Arab World, in 1997 he was given the 50th film anniversary award at the Cannes Film Festival.
