North Hollywood, CA - (PressReleasePoint) - December 17, 2008 — InsuranceBureau.com, independent consumer resource for insurance information, reports North Carolina insurance regulators are considering a proposed home insurance rate increase from home insurance carriers operating in the state.

North Carolina residents have already experienced two home insurance rate increases within the past six years. If this home insurance rate increase is approved, it will increase rates by an average of 19.5 percent. One specific area, Brunswick County might experience home insurance rate increases of up to 70 percent. Critics argue that the Beach Plan or state home insurance plan is fueling the home insurance problems for North Carolina residents. Many home insurance companies have stopped operating in North Carolina, or desire to raise their rates.

InsuranceBureau.com stresses the importance of comparison shopping for home insurance. Even though home insurance is costly in North Carolina overall, it does not make sense to pay more for home insurance if a consumer can get a better home insurance rate somewhere else.
