A British clinic in Spain have developed a real alternative to gastric band surgery, the Gastric mind Band.

A British owned clinic near Marbella has pioneered a new approach to weight loss, the Gastric mind Band, they use CBT and deep hypnotherapy along with a few hi tech techniques of there own to completely convince dieters that they have actually gone through a surgical procedure and had an actual band fitted. Of course there is no surgery, no risk of MRSA or fears relating to having a general anaesthetic, and no invoice for £5,000 plus.

This method of imaginary surgery incorporating guided imagery is in itself not new, however its use in the field of weight loss is believed to be somewhat unique.

Imagine an overweight person visiting a clinic, where, after an in-depth conversation, they are gently taken through a therapeutic process, which included guided imagery and visualisation, and then waking up afterwards completely convinced in their own mind that they had just undergone a surgical procedure under general anaesthetic. Their imagined operation involved the fitting of a Gastric Band around their stomach, which has now shrunk to the size of a golf ball.

Co-developer and guinea pig Martin Shirran states “Clients always tell us they can remember things like the 'clinical smell' of the operating theatre, and the unusual sounds of the medical equipment, I have even seen them touching their stomach after the session, just to be sure”

The development of the Gastric mind Band (GmB) therapy originated from a brief conversation with a client, who said, "I just know that if I had a Gastric Band fitted like my neighbour the weight would drop off me, couldn't you just hypnotise me and make me believe that I had undergone the procedure and be done with it." An interesting idea! Hypnotherapy alone proved not to be the solution, but over the following twelve months a possibly unique therapy was developed, cleverly combining Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, NLP, Hypnotherapy and guided imagery, and the client's wish was granted!
