NPSA Highlights Rugged Portable Storage Containers

The National Portable Storage Association is shining a light on the built-in—and add-on—security features that portable storage containers have to offer.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (Jan. 13, 2010) – A company called ioSafe made a huge splash at the Consumer Electronics Show last week with its Rugged Portable product. The portable storage device offers physical security for mobile data, complete with "Full Metal Jacket" technology.

But there's another type of portable storage with similar benefits: shipping containers that are used to store everything from records to construction equipment and beyond. This containerized storage is also increasingly used for housing purposes—and it's rugged by design.

"Portable storage devices have become all the rage—but recent security leaks have put them in a negative spotlight," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. "By contrast, our members' portable storage containers are used on industrial and government sites because they offer a strong level of security."

Portable storage units from NPSA members are constructed of 100 percent steel, offering security and peace of mind for universities, corporations, retailers and others that need physical security. Indeed, portable storage containers are secure by nature, and users can install additional security bells and whistles to make them even safer.

"Portable storage units offer more than so-called Full Metal Jacket technology," said Joel Rathbone, Operations Manager for the NPSA. "Portable storage containers are full metal. Security companies can also install alarms and monitoring systems on these portable storage units that make them ideal for securing expensive equipment or for use as security outposts."
