WASHINGTON (NRB) – In advance of a hearing entitled “The Broadcast Incentive Auction: Update on Repacking Opportunities and Challenges” in the House Energy & Commerce Committee on Thursday, National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) highlighted the value of Christian television programming for local communities. In particular, NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson emphasized care for religious broadcast stations in spectrum re-allocation deliberations.

“Religious television broadcasters – operating as full power, Class A, or LPTV stations – provide an important service to local communities with their faith- and family-oriented viewing choices,” said Johnson. “NRB urges a fair repacking process that upholds the continued viability of these ministries."

The NRB Board of Directors, a body of approximately a hundred key leaders among Christian communicators, unanimously approved a resolution in 2015 that “calls on the FCC to take care not to auction any religious broadcaster off the air.”

Instead, “[T]he FCC should keep the interests of the viewing public paramount in the auction proceeding and not undermine programming choices for Americans, specifically the religious and family programming that NRB TV Members provide free of charge to local communities.”
