Tokyo, Japan -NTT Electronics Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward (hereafter, NTT Electronics), today announced that it has developed the MPC1010 MPEG-2 HDTV/SDTV Multi-Channel Encoder. The MPC1010 will go on sale in North America in the third quarter of 2009 and is expected to bring significant cost savings for broadcast operators moving to HDTV and DTV multi-channel capability.

The MPC1010 is a digital broadcast platform which can be installed with multiple MPEG-2 HDTV/SDTV encoders which allows for high image quality, high reliability and high cost performance. With encoder IC that provides high-quality MPEG-2 videos, the unit supports both HDTV (1080i and 720p) and SDTV (576i and 480i) standards.

generation features, making it ideal for digital terrestrial broadcast systems. In addition to the DVB-ASI output interface, the MPC1010 also includes IP output capability, suiting it for distribution between stations using IP, CATV and IPTV broadcasting, and high-end video surveillance solutions.

With the transition to digital broadcasting in many countries, the capability of multi-channel broadcasting is extending. At the same time, the increasing penetration of HDTV sets in households spurs more demand for HDTV content, which requires operators to create HDTV content and have HDTV broadcasting systems. “The transition to HDTV and multi-channel capability requires significant capital investment to ensure that proper digital broadcast facilities are established” said Mr. Koichi Masaki, the newly appointed General Manager of the Multimedia Systems Division at NTT Electronics. “Due to the related expenses, there is a current need for cost efficient options in building such systems. NTT Electronic's MPC1010 is a clear response to providing operators with such an option.”

The MPC1010 has a modular design that allows for flexible adaptation to operator needs and can provide simultaneous encoding of up to four different video and audio channels in a single rack. Furthermore, its support for TS MUX and PSIP generation functionality contributes to simplification of operation, space savings, and reduced cost.
