(Deerfield Beach, FL) It’s that time of season-- or should I say time of sneezing? It’s the holidays, a time when friends, relatives, and loved ones are all gathered around you. This O2 Media Special Holiday edition of Designing Spaces thought holiday time would be the best time to talk about the flu, including its risks… and what can be done to help prevent contracting the virus.

This holiday season is estimated to be an extremely high risk period for contamination of the H1N1 “Swine Flu” virus, so to get important advice on how to fight this virus, O2 Media’s Designing Spaces has invited Rhonda Lemmo RN, Surgical Product Manager for Molnlycke Healthcare. Rhonda says, “According to the CDC, while the seasonal flu varies in terms of timing, duration and severity with over 90% of deaths and about 60% of hospitalizations occurring in people older than 65-- the 2009 H1N1 flu has caused greater disease burden in people YOUNGER than 25 years old.”

Rhonda adds, “The best thing you can do to ward off the chances of getting the Swine Flu is frequent washing of hands and the use of a hand sanitizer when a sink is not available. Because someone may pick up the virus off a surface without being near the contagious person, an antimicrobial soap with residual killing action is highly recommended, such as Hibiclens Antiseptic/Antimicrobial Skin Cleaner. Combined with proper hand washing technique, you reduce the risk of infection”.
