OMA President Looks Forward to Working with New CMA President

Ontario Medical Association President Dr. Ved Tandan congratulated Dr. Chris Simpson on his installment as the new president of the Canadian Medical Association.

Dr. Simpson, a cardiologist from Kingston, was installed as president at the CMA’s annual meeting in Ottawa on Wednesday.

“Dr. Simpson brings a wealth of experience – both clinical and policy-related – that will serve him well in his new role,” said Dr. Tandan. “I look forward to working with him as we build the health care of the future.”

Originally from New Brunswick, Dr. Simpson is a professor of medicine and chief of cardiology at Queen’s University, as well as medical director of the Cardiac Program at Kingston General Hospital/Hotel Dieu Hospital. He has served on numerous boards, committees and federations, as well as authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts.

Dr. Simpson succeeds Dr. Louis Hugo Francescutti, an emergency and preventive medicine physician from Edmonton, as head of the national organization.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Francescutti for his commitment and service,” said Dr. Tandan.
