  • Telekom delivers world’s first hybrid Internet connection for consumers
  • New Speedport Hybrid router combines landline and mobile network bandwidths
  • Incremental rollout from fall 2014 on

Telekom will become the world’s first provider to roll out a hybrid Internet connection for consumers when it launches just such a product in Germany later this year. When customers surf the Net at home, the new Speedport Hybrid router will automatically combine landline and mobile network bandwidths. This combination of the DSL and LTE standards will enable fast Internet access even in areas with low coverage.

“Hybrid is a key component of our integrated network strategy,” explains Michael Hagspihl, Director of Marketing at Telekom Deutschland. “Our customers will automatically get the best of both worlds because Hybird unites our outstanding fixed network with our outstanding mobile communications network. The Hybrid router automatically activates the LTE turbo to boost the fixed network bandwidth. This will significantly improve our customers’ Web experience.”

The router prioritizes the fluctuation-free DSL line for data transfer and utilizes additional mobile bandwidth when needed. This means that users can achieve top-speed access at home via the fast LTE mobile network.

The rollout of Hybrid Speedport will start in Germany this fall across the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Berlin. The hybrid connection will be available across the entire country starting spring 2015. Use of the new technology requires availability of DSL and LTE as well as a hybrid-capable router. Telekom will initially offer the technology for lines with Internet connections. Beginning in late 2015, it will also be made available for TV reception.

Obligation-free registration for the new technology is possible now at www.telekom.de/hybrid or by calling 0800 33 01000 (using the keyword “Hybrid”). Registered customers will receive further details of rates and plans in the course of the fall. Information on the router can be found here: http://endgeraetedatenbank.telekom.com/
