One third of Australian men are admitting that they would consider cosmetic survey, according to a new independent survey of 1,500* people across Australia on behalf of the Victorian Cosmetic Institute.

Victoria Australia, November 03, 2009 (PressReleasePoint)-- One third of Australian men are admitting that they would consider cosmetic survey, according to a new independent survey of 1,500* people across Australia on behalf of the Victorian Cosmetic Institute.

Men are two and a half times more likely than women to have cosmetic surgery for professional reasons as they believe good looks are the key to landing a better job.

“This is in line with a University of Sydney study that found that ‘lookism’ is on the rise and your physical appearance is more important than previous experience in some trades” says Dr Gavin Chan of the Victorian Cosmetic Institute.

Dr Chan says men are now feeling similar pressure to look their best as women have for many years.

“As procedures become less intrusive and expensive, men are more willing to incorporate them as a regular part of their daily regime. Now like going to the gym, moisturizing or brushing your teeth - having botox, a chemical peel or a dermal filler are fast becoming a normal part of their day-to-day lives”.

The survey showed that men are four times more likely than women to have cosmetic surgery due to pressure from their partner and two and a half times more likely to have cosmetic surgery following a divorce.

“Men are realizing that they can reinvent themselves and there is no stigma attached anymore to having work done” according to Dr Chan.

“The facts are that cosmetic procedures are becoming common place with 41% of the Australian population over the age of 18 saying they would have cosmetic surgery in a heartbeat.

“The primary reason people give for wanting a “freshen up” is that they feel past their use by date, with even those in the 25-34 year old age bracket feeling they are over the hill.”

The victorian cosmetic institute has two locations in Melbourne, Australia and features a team of specialised cosmetic Doctors, and Nurses. The institute uses the latest research, products and technology to provide patients with the most up-to-date techniques and specialises in non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments.

Popular treatments include anti wrinkle treatments like Dysport and Botox injections, laser based treatments like skin resurfacing, hair reduction , dermal fillers like esthelis , dermabrasion, liposuction and other cosmetic surgery procedures.
