OneSource Takes Sales and Inventory Performance to the Next Level with Datalliance VMI

Cincinnati, Ohio, October 27, 2011- In a recently published Datalliance Vendor Managed Inventory success story, OneSource, a $350 million electrical distributor serving the Western United States with 11 locations across California, Arizona, Hawaii and Mexico, credits VMI for further improving an already strong relationship with Hubbell. Mike Smith, OneSource President and COO states: “OneSource and Hubbell have a pretty mature relationship. We’ve been doing a good job of working together to optimize sales and inventory for 20 years. But we still got a notable uptick in key performance metrics when we turned on VMI. We think that’s a pretty impressive endorsement of the power of VMI.”

A Hubbell partner for over 20 years, OneSource began participating in the Hubbell Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) program using the Datalliance VMI platform in 2010 – starting with Hubbell Wiring Device products, then adding Hubbell Power Systems products. Today, OneSource manages over 1,600 stocked items from Hubbell Wiring Devices and over 120 stocked items from Hubbell Power Systems using VMI.

The primary goals OneSource had for participating in Hubbell’s VMI program have all been realized – increased inventory turns, decreased inventory levels, and improved fill rates. “We’re very happy with the results we’ve seen from doing VMI with Hubbell,” says Smith. “For example, after doing VMI with Hubbell’s Wiring Device products for a little over a year, our turns were up 22%, our inventory was down 6%, and our out-of-stock items were down 60%. That’s in a period where sales were up about 12%. We’ve had similar results with the Hubbell utility products – we’ve seen turns increase about 23% for those items since we’ve gotten them on VMI.”

The story outlines other important benefits of the VMI program, including improved data quality for e-commerce, reduced returns, and greater collaboration on sales programs between OneSource and Hubble.
