Ontario, Canada, May 25, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -- Safe International is the leading provider of mobile self defense training in Canada. It currently operates throughout Ontario and has expanded into Ottawa and Toronto with a focused marketing campaign to provide self defense to Senior Citizens. Safe international has delivered training to over one hundred thousand (100,000) people since 1994. The company is owned and managed by Chris Roberts who is a professional teaching Director and self-defense instructor.

There is a focus on teaching self defense to women. A group very often ignored in regards to personal protection are senior citizens. Many senior citizens feel they are either too old or not physically strong enough to learn self defense. This is exactly the reason why senior citizens require self defense instruction. Attackers look for potentially easy victims and unfortunately seniors meet some of the criteria. Here are some statistics that illustrate the importance of self defense training for this segment of society.

- Two-thirds of seniors believe they will inevitably be victims.
- Many seniors alter their lifestyles because they fear being victimized.
- Almost half of those aged 75 or older are afraid to leave their homes after dark.
- One-third of seniors say fear of crime has contributed to a sense of loneliness and isolation.

What can Safe International teach seniors? Safe International can teach seniors the exact same skills of Recognize, React and Respond that they teach to people of all ages, but altered to work with their fitness and mobility levels. Most important as with anyone or group is the preventative side of self defense. Awareness of daily routines is key and the potential for danger in those routines. Attackers look for potentially easy victims and unfortunately senior citizens are seen as easy victims. An attacker sees a senior as someone who is not aware or able to defend themself physically. If a senior is attacked they can use this perceived lack of physical strength to their advantage. An attacker is not looking for a challenge, but rather someone they can attack without too much struggle. Even if a senior citizen jabs their fingers into their eyes, this will come as a surprise and be effective. Safe International instructors teach seniors to use strikes that don't take a lot of effort such as eye strikes, palm strikes, etc. Now if someone is just looking to steal their valuables, it is still recommended to give them to the attacker as the risk of physical harm is not worth it. If things go beyond just wanting their property, everyone should be prepared to defend themself regardless of age, sex, or strength.
