CFA Society of Cyprus Hosts Global Investment Profession Leaders from the EMEA Region
Thirty-seven countries will be represented at the Regional Meeting of CFA Institute Societies in Limassol
Nicosia, Cyprus, March 3, 2010– The CFA Society of Cyprus will host, together with CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, the annual regional meeting for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) CFA Society leaders. The gathering, involving 37 countries and representing over 16,000 investment professionals, takes place from 4−6 March in Limassol. Attendees will come from as far afield as Bermuda, South Africa, Russia, the Middle East, USA, and Western Europe.
It is the first time CFA Institute has held this event in Cyprus, and it will bring together industry figures from across the EMEA region to evaluate and discuss some of the most pressing topics affecting CFA Institute members in this fast-changing economic environment. The meeting will address how to support members and CFA Societies across the region. Discussions will also be held on the implications of the worldwide financial crisis and changes that are likely to emerge as a result.
The CFA Society of Cyprus successfully bid to host the conference by securing sponsorship and funding through FxPro Financial Services, Cyprus Tourism Organisation, Russian Commercial Bank, Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency, and Eurofast. CFA Cyprus is part of a network of 137 CFA Institute-affiliated professional societies from around the world. The CFA Society of Cyprus has 79 members and 130 candidates enrolled in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program, the gold standard qualification for investment professionals worldwide, in 2009.
Commenting on the conference, Nitin Mehta, managing director, CFA Institute for EMEA, said, “We are delighted to be here in Cyprus this year. This conference will provide an ideal opportunity for our society leaders, who represent all areas of the investment industry, to come together, listen, and discuss some of the many issues and opportunities facing our membership. An important part of the mission of CFA Institute is to meet our members’ needs, and through this annual conference we are able to discuss with our societies the evolving opportunities for CFA charterholders and members and how best to serve them. We are greatly appreciative of the efforts of the CFA Society of Cyprus in enabling us all to come to this wonderful island.”
Constantinos Papanastasiou, CFA, president, CFA Society of Cyprus, said, “Cyprus is fast becoming a financial hub for the eastern Mediterranean region, attracting and managing investments from many parts of the world. This, in turn, fuels the demand for quality investment professionals, particularly those who commit to standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence demanded of all members of CFA Institute. We are therefore very pleased to be the host society and country for this regional meeting, and we will use it as an opportunity to showcase the special talent we have available here. We also want to thank our sponsors for helping us secure the necessary finances to host the meeting.”
