Palau de la Música Catalana hits the right note with Virtua
Aug 10, 2011
For Immediate Release
VTLS Inc. is proud to announce that Palau de la Música Catalana selected the Virtua ILS to automate the Orfeó Català Library and Archives, going live with Virtua and Chamo in early 2011. The implementation was completed immediately after the server was received at the library. Currently, only the library material is being catalogued; archival material will follow once the greater part of the library has been cataloged in Virtua.
The Palau de la Música Catalana, one of the world’s most prestigious and attractive concert halls, is an important destination in the cultural and social life of the city of Barcelona. The Palau’s Library and Archives of Orfeó Català, founded by a private association in 1891, is one of the most important Spanish musical libraries. The library houses musical publications and manuscripts that hold exceptional significance for Catalunya as well as European music history. Highlights of the collection include unique musical sources from the Medieval Age to the 20th century, including autographed manuscripts by Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados. Religious music of the Renaissance and the 18th century along with guitar works by Sor and José Ferrer add diversity and significance to this unique musical archive.
“The implementation of Virtua and Chamo in the Palau de la Música Catalana represents an important turn in the modernization of our library and archives. Within a reasonable budget VTLS brings us the possibility of having our first standards-based catalog, which allows us to easily exchange bibliographic items from the Union Catalog of Catalonia (CCUC) with many international libraries. Chamo, the social OPAC, will be open to the public starting very soon”, said Montserrat Bergadà, Library Director.
“VTLS is very pleased to be selected by the Palau de la Música Catalana for the purpose of organizing and exposing its library and audiovisual material. We, at VTLS, feel truly honored to be associated with one of the world’s most distinguished centers of performing arts”, said Jack Bazuzi, Managing Director of VTLS Europe, S.L.
