PAX East – Real March Madness is About Video Games
“Tis the season” isn’t just a phrased used during the holidays, but for the gaming community, it starts in Boston at the PAX East show. Historically the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco has been the E3 kickoff, but the way the schedule has fallen this year, GDC takes place the following week.
Open to the general public, this show will set the tone for the gaming community for the year. For long awaited titles that are releasing this month like the Tomb Raider reboot, Bioshock Infinite or Gears of War: Judgment, it’ll be a great selling opportunity for anyone who was on the fence about buying these titles. (Although that probably only applies to about two people).
Plus, you can always expect something “new”. It may not be coincident that Saints Row IV was recently announced after Deep Silver took over the franchise from THQ. The next installment in the Assassin’s Creed (Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag) franchise was also announced recently, so you should definitely expect more about that game to be unveiled. Then there’s the clamor for news and information about the upcoming PlayStation®4 and any news that Microsoft may “let slip” about their next generation system.
This is where the buzz starts, folks. Even Seagate is getting into the mix by partnering with Newegg.com to showcase the power of our Momentus XT hard drive in a PlayStation®3. If you’re not coming to the show, check out this video of the speed test we shot during CES.
It’s a good time to be a gamer. The current generation of game consoles have been on the market since 2005 and have definitely reached their peak. It’ll be great to see games getting a final run on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3, but it’s time to go to the next level.
Stepping into a show like PAX East is always a bit of a homecoming for me. I don’t have the time to dedicate to gaming like I used to, but when I do play, I’m still pretty hardcore. So I’m really looking forward to all the gaming goodness from PAX East, aren’t you?
