Bianca Del Rio, crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar” by winning season six of the television reality series "RuPaul’s Drag Race," will perform at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.
Self-proclaimed as a ‘clown in a dress,” Del Rio (Roy Haylock) emerged on the New Orleans’ gay entertainment scene in 1998 and nearly immediately became a premier nightlife entertainer. Multifaceted talents of costume design, comedy and theatrics were seamlessly merged to create the beloved Drag Queen persona that is Bianca Del Rio.
In addition to performing in drag, Del Rio is a costume designer for Broadway shows, ballet and opera. She performs weekly at various New York City bars, clubs, and eateries while traveling nationally and internationally for events. Her impeccably quick-witted comedy, effortless fashions, and unique ability to make audiences cry from laughter while she tatters their self-image to shreds, keeps everyone beckoning for more.
Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the Office of Student Life in the Slep Student Center. They are $5 for Penn State Altoona students and $10 general admission, cash or check only. For more information, call 814-949-5407.
