Perth Mint Unveils New 2012 Australian Gold And Silver Coin Series

The Perth Mint unveiled two new series, the 2012 Australian Lunar gold and silver bullion coin series and the 2012 Australian Kookaburra silver bullion coin series

PERTH. The magnificent 2012 Australian Lunar gold and silver bullion coins celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the fifth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Both reverse designs include the Chinese character for 'dragon', the inscription 'Year of the Dragon' in English, and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark.

The coins are struck from 99.99% pure gold and 99.9% pure silver. Gold bullion Dragon coins are available in 10kg, 1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz sizes.  Silver bullion Dragon coins are available in 10kg, 1kg, 10oz, 5oz, 2oz, 1oz and 1/2oz sizes.

Limited mintages apply to some coins, including no more than 30,000 1oz gold coins and 300,000 1oz silver coins.

Each coin, which portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The 2012 Australian Kookaburra silver bullion coins portray a kookaburra sitting on a tree branch amid eucalypt leaves. The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark and 2012 year-date are included in the reverse design. The obverse of each coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Struck from 1kg, 10oz and 1oz of 99.9% of silver, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

Only 500,000 1oz coins will be released. No mintage limit applies to 1kg and 10oz coins.
