Dr Jon Davis will become Director of Partnerships and Skills in the Policy Institute at King’s College London later this year.

The newly established role will involve creating and building the Strand Policy Group – a policy forum bringing together politics, policy and academia and overseeing a fellowship programme whereby academics will spend time in a policy setting and policy and decision makers will spend time at King’s.

Dr Davis will also lead a training and development programme, initially aimed at King’s academics, on how to engage with policy and decision makers and have an impact on policy.

Dr Davis is currently Director of the Mile End Group at Queen Mary, University of London. His research interests cover contemporary British politics and government, the machinery of government issues, the Civil Service and the regeneration of the East End of London, in particular Canary Wharf and Tech City.

Before entering academia, Dr Davis worked in investment banking at JP Morgan and Banque Paribas and spent 2000 in the Modernising Government Secretariat of the Cabinet Office.

Dr Davis said: 'It's a huge honour for me to be joining the world class King's College London. The ambition of the institution is huge. I can't wait to get started forging ever closer and more valuable partnerships between academia, government and business which will provide the finest quality education and employability experience for outstanding students utilising state-of-the-art e-learning. This is going to be exciting.'

Dr Jonathon Grant, Director of King’s Policy Institute, said: ‘We are delighted to be welcoming Jon to King’s and look forward to working with him in setting up and establishing the Strand Policy Group. His experience and knowledge in contemporary British politics and government is second to none.’

Professor Evelyn Welch, Vice-Principal of Arts & Sciences at King’s, said: ‘King’s has a long tradition of engaging with policy at all levels with ambitious plans for the future. Jon has a superb track record of engagement with the UK government over many years and we are delighted that he is joining the Policy Institute at King’s to help us deliver a major new agenda of policy engagement.’

Dr Davis will take up his post in early November 2014.
