Structures 4 and 7, closed since the July 29 water main break, are scheduled to re-open in phases prior to fall quarter

UCLA Transportation re-opened portions of parking structure 4 to a limited number of permit holders today. A little more than 500 spaces on the eastern end of structure 4, beneath Wilson Plaza, were made available.

Parking structures 4 and 7 have been closed since the July 29 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power water main break on Sunset Boulevard. About 3,200 spaces were affected.

Additional portions of structures 4 and 7 are expected to re-open in phases before the start of the academic year in October, UCLA Transportation officials said. Permit holders will be notified when spaces are available from them to park in structures 4 or 7. Until then, permit holders are asked to use their temporary permits for structures 2 and 3.

Both structures 4 and 7 remain closed to the general public as clean-up and repairs continue. Crews are restoring ventilation, elevator doors, fire safety systems and more.

Of the nearly 1,000 cars that were trapped in the flooded garages, 35 remained to be picked up by their drivers as of Monday morning, officials. UCLA Transportation is continuing efforts to to reach out to the owners.

The first wave of vehicles, those that were undamaged during the flooding, were picked up on Aug. 1, while on Aug. 5 owners of vehicles that had been damaged were reunited with their cars.
