The ways precision technology can help livestock production is set to come under the spotlight as a leading international conference in precision agriculture comes to the UK.

The 11th European Conference in Precision Agriculture will see experts from across the world gather in Edinburgh this month to learn about the latest developments in precision agriculture, and how they can be applied to production systems.

Held at the John McIntyre Centre at Pollock Halls, Edinburgh, from 16 - 20 July the main conference will cover subjects including soil sensing, precision irrigation and crop control.

For those interested in livestock science and production, a special satellite meeting will be held at the same venue on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 July.

The session, which will focus on precision management of grasslands, will cover subjects including pasture and soil monitoring technologies and smart nutrient systems.

Delegates will also learn about monitoring systems for grazing livestock, as well as the ways prevision technology can help with management of grazing animals.

Supported by BSAS, the Precision Management of Grasslands event will offer the interested in livestock science and production the chance to hear about the ways technology is changing the industry.

The speed in which the food and farming sectors are changing due to technological developments is truly staggering,” says Bruce Beveridge, BSAS chief executive.

“For those studying or working in livestock production, this satellite event will give them the chance to understand how that technology is changing farming now, and how it might change our farming systems in future.

“Agriculture is only going to become more integrated with precision technology, so for those interested in understanding how livestock farming is developing, this event shouldn’t be missed.”
