“IPCC AR5 Report of WG II: A Comprehensive Background and Next Steps”
UNU-EHS in collaboration with the German Climate Service Center will present the results of the new Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 5th assessment report (IPCC AR5), Working Group II (WG II) on impacts, adaptation and vulnerability. Climate change scientists will discuss how their research contributed to the report.
Speakers include UNU-EHS researchers and IPCC WGII lead authors Dr. Joern Birkmann and Dr. Koko Warner. Following individual presentations, a panel discussion will focus on the implications of the new framing and the IPCC AR5 reports.
The event will attempt to address the following questions:
What key aspects of the AR5 WG II report are new and different compared to the AR4 and former IPCC reports?
How do IPCC Lead authors judge the quality of the process and the results published later on?
What are key opportunities, limits and challenges when trying to summarize the existing knowledge in different areas?
What are lessons learned from writing such a global report with more than 200 authors?
Which findings require changes in present strategies in different sectors (e.g. in adaptation policies, etc.)?
What are important lessons and implications of the new IPCC report for science and policy dialogues?
What comes next?
The event is free of charge and in English. The registration deadline is 10 May.
