Press Release: Cutter Consortium Announces Ken Collier as Director of its Data Integrity, BI & Collaboration Practice
IT consulting and advisory firm Cutter Consortium announced the appointment ofKen Collieras the new director of itsData Integration, BI & Collaborationpractice.
With more than two decades in advanced computing and technology, Ken Collier has experienced many of the trends that come and go in the field, as well as the ones that truly transform the state of practice. He embraces challenging problems in the areas of systems architecture and design, systems/software development lifecycles, project leadership, data warehousing and business intelligence, and advanced analytics.
Ken has been a Senior Consultant with Cutter Consortium's BI and Agile practices since 2004. In his new role as Director, Ken will lead Cutter's Data Intelligence, BI & Collaboration (DBC) practice, which includes research, consulting, and training services around data-driven decision support topics including the emerging, hot buttons - social BI, agile analytics, Big Data, columnar databases, associative databases, in-memory analytics - as well as the fundamentals of data warehousing, business intelligence, and related topics such as business performance management, critical-event processing, and others. He will head the community of Senior Consultants focused in these areas and will lay out the research agenda in these domains.
Ken Collier is a pioneer in combining Agile methods with data warehousing, business intelligence, and advanced analytics - disciplines that present a unique set of challenges to the incremental/evolutionary style of Agile development. Previously, he has worked as a software engineer for a large technology company, spent several years as a tenured professor of computer science engineering, and he directed the DW/BI solutions group for a major consulting firm. He is the author of the widely acclaimed groundbreaking book Agile Analytics: A Value-Driven Approach to Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing.
"I am thrilled that Ken is now leading our DBC practice," said Karen Fine Coburn, President and CEO of Cutter Consortium. "Ken spends much of his time onsite with clients, helping them see how they might wrangle their data - structured and unstructured - to support their business goals. Consequently, his insight about what enterprises need right now is spot on. We're extremely excited with the path Ken's carving out for Data Integration, BI & Collaboration."
Says Collier, "Traditional BI - the organization and reporting of corporate operational data - is no longer the competitive differentiator it once was. BI is still essential to maintain parity, but today's business leaders are increasingly looking to public data, blogs, social media outlets, global news, and other externally available data to support important decisions. Moreover, today's business leaders can't wait for long project cycles to provide these capabilities. They need it now, and they need IT organizations that can shift and adapt quickly to changing demands. We're in an exciting time regarding data integration, BI, and collaborative technologies. There are a lot of innovative ideas that deserve our attention and can change the value we provide to our enterprises. My goal in leading the DBC practice is to help clients stay on top of all those ideas."
