LIMA, Peru, March 12, 2013. – Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso welcomed hundreds of students at the beginning of the Peruvian school year, using the Cisco TelePresence® and Cisco WebEx ® platforms.
President Humala used a Cisco TelePresence 3000 system located at the Government Palace, and together with the Minister of Education Sra Patricia Salas, conducted a high-definition communication session with the students of the Shuji Kitamura School at the Santa Anita district outside Lima, connected through Cisco MX200 and Cisco EX90 TelePresence systems. These systems were distributed in several rooms, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Pedagogical Management Martin Vegas and the Ministers of Health and Social Development and Inclusion, Midori De Habich and Carolina Trivelli, respectively.
Additionally, the president used the Cisco WebEx collaboration solution to communicate simultaneously with 191 schools all over Peru.
These platforms, deployed with the collaboration of Telefonica, allowed the chief of state to address to the whole educational community without the need of traveling from the Government Palace, and he was able to reach hundreds of students at different sites, in real time and in an interactive way.
"New Cisco technologies can generate new learning environments for students and teachers in our country. We have to consider that new platforms like TelePresence allow the integration of valuable information in a collaborative way, encouraging a better interaction among teachers and students from the whole country," said Alba San Martín, country manager, Cisco Peru and Bolivia. She added that "technology has a key role to improve educational quality and to reduce the social inclusion gap imperative in the country".
